My Presentations

These are presentations that I have put together and given. I designed the Plant Maintenance and Composting template, and the Florida Ants template and invasive ant characteristics system.

Tamarixia - Our allies in the war against citrus greening

Citrus greening (HLB), a disease that attacks citrus trees, has caused over $20 billion in cumulative lost revenue in Florida since 2005. Fortunately for us, tiny tamarixia wasps can help control its spread. Learn about the biology of these tiny defenders and how to use them to their maximum advantage.

Ants of Florida

Ants are one of my favorite subjects. Their societies are complex and highly variable and they provide valuable ecosystem services. In this presentation I cover some of the ants that are commonly found in Florida, and I untangle the characteristics that distinguish pest ants from others.

How to give a presentation

No one is born an engaging and smooth public speaker. Learn how to overcome your nerves and create your presentations in a way that will draw an audience in and keep their interest.

Rain Barrels

Rain barrels are a wonderful way to save water—and your wallet! Here, I cover the basics of how to use and assemble your own rain barrel, as well as their environmental benefits. Watch the full video presentation here for a hands-on demonstration of how to assemble your own rain barrel.

Plant Selection and Maintenance

I gave this presentation covering the basics of how to match the right plant with the right place as part of a two-day workshop on landscape design that I conceptualized, advertised, and organized.

Composting 101

33 - 40% of the world's soil is highly depleted and composting is one way that you can turn your trash into a valuable resource to nourish your garden and the plant. You can watch the recorded video of this presentation here.

Common Invasive Plants of South Florida

A guide to the plants that you will learn to regret allowing to flourish in your yard.

Bug Camp - What is an Arthropod?

Deep understanding of insects comes from first understanding what insects are and how they compare to other arthropods.
